lens board adapter

Darcy - Even if an OEM adapter board is unavailable for your particular needs, there are providers that can custom manufacture an adapter board for you. The price is usually similiar (or even less) than an OEM model (or probably significantly less in your case, given Sinar's outrageous sticker prices on accesories). S.K.Grimes or Richard Ritter among other specialists in LF equipment repair offer these boards.

Most of my large format lens kits are mounted on the Linhof/Toyo style metal lens board for my Tachihara 4x5 wood field.

I make my own adapter step-up for my various cameras, ie 5x7 Conley wood, 8x10 Eastman 2D, and in regards to my view camera kit the Cambo uses the same front standard for 4x5, 5x7 and 8x10. So one adapter works well.

Very often I use gorilla glue and solid mahogany to laminate my own lens boards. messy as all h--- but when it hardens under the clamps you get a 1/2" thick light cross laminated solid hardwood lense board. With practice it gets easier but never less messy!

I do have some large lenses that could never fit on the Tachihara metal board, Ilex #3, 4 & 5 shutters, but they too can be "adapted". For slide bars I raid old press cameras!

Most adapters from field & press to larger view systems are for 4X4 inch metal or wood, the metal Linhof/Toyo 98x96mm (or there abouts), and the older Graphic Press a stamped out metal plate. I have a factory made Cambo 4x4 to 6x6 adapter and use a Toyo made 4x4 to Linhof field to load the rest. Many of my 4x5 lenses cover 5x7 and one or two get within a few mm's of an 8x10 negative. That is why I tinker.

Sounds more confusing than it is: got tire of reaching for the retainer ring spanners and have settled in on what I want to use. So a couple of adapters made it all flow back and forth.

I might mount a #4 universal retainer ring on a Linhof board to try a really large 19" Dagor on 4x5, but haven't tried yet!

Enjoy Paul
