f_w
The specifications of the two cameras (GX/FX) are identical. The only difference, as I understand it, has to do with the covering, strap, and the use of the older "Rolleiflex" script on the front of the FX. Is there any difference in the metal surface/trim of the two?
vijay_nebhrajani
One significant change: they changed the shutter from Copal to Seiko (or maybe Seiko to Copal). Either way, the newer FX shutter is much smoother and doesn't have any "nasty 'twoing'" sound as has been onomatopoeically described elsewhere. Be aware that smoother though the FX is, it is no Nikon FM2N, and nowhere near the 2.8F. Cosmetically, the back on the FX has chrome edge trim, this is supposedly better than that on the GX which can wear off quickly.
chris_chow
The lens is now made by Rollei under licence from Zeiss.
Greg M
That has been the case ever since the GX was introduced.
caliber_60
"Copal to Seiko shutter" I prefer Copal over Seiko. The original Copal shutter is a piece of German mechanical wonder. If you never try one, try it, ou will not regret.
vijay_nebhrajani
Caliber 60, that was the Compur. The Copal, like the Seiko is Japanese.
carl_mclaren
There are two 2.8 GX. GX(1) has the Compur shutter. GX(2) mostly has a japanese shutter although the 75th anniversary model has the Compur. The GX(2) has a cover over the focusing knob which you unscrew to get to the battery. See Rolleiclub.com for everything and anything about any Rollei product ever made.
