WM
Are you in Melbourne, Australia ? Just wondering if there are any pros out there who have developed a good relationship with a good, reliable and consistently high quality lab to do all sorts of digital and film processing ? (i.e. dSLR printing/enlargements, proofs, B&W, E6, MF and Xpan). I am looking for a good lab to send all my work to, and to build a good relationship with them, so if there are any recommendations of such a lab with good, helpful people (especially calibrating to their output !), skills, knowledge, availability and varied printing/processing, would you be able to point me in the right direction ? Thanks for your help.
rokkor fan
There's one called Bond Imaging at 4 Gwynne St, Richmond (ph. 9429-1299) that is a great pro lab - used by a lot of professionals and offers all the services you are seeking. Highly recommended.

kelvin_lau
CPL in Wellington Rd, St Kilda - E6 and C41, caters mainly for commercial market. Does a cheap 20x32" Pegasus print from digital file for $33. I think they also do XPan. Very busy lab but generally friendly. Lab X on Pakington Rd, St Kilda - Primarily E6 processing, does Frontier prints but a bit pricey. Very friendly service, also one for the commercial market. Pinewood in Mount Waverley (south-east suburbs) - does everything (E6, C41, Durst Lambda printer), friendly service, caters mainly for portrait & wedding market. WM
Thanks for all the quick suggestion ! I do mainly people shots, for portraits, family pixs, weddings, but for my own little experiments to amuse myself, it will be the odd landscape (Velvia mainly), and more "street" or environmental portraits type shots (Tri-X, Neopan, some Superia). Keep the recommendations coming ! I'm willing to try them all out to find out which one suits.......... I am in the Clayton area during the day, but live in the Berwick/Narre Warren area, so I am highly flexible if it is around the Eastern Suburbs area. Thanks ! kris
Do you know Vanbar in Carlton? http://www.vanbar.com.au. So far I haven't got any complain but YMMV.
They do E-6 standard/push/pull, B&W standard/push/pull, contact sheet and prints from digital as far as I know. Most of the staff members are friendly and helpful, especially the young ones.
Cheers, Kris
kelvin_lau
Vanbar has a lab service as well as a discount card, but bring a big stick to beat a path through the RMIT students. Also make sure you shut your wallet so you don't buy anything expensive & shiny lying around. I forgot to mention one important thing - parking. Vanbar - virtually none, a metered street space if lucky CPL - small off-street car park behind building Lab X - single 15 min loading zone in front of the lab Pinewood - adjacent Coles supermarket car park http://www.vanbar.com.au http://www.cpldigital.com.au http://www.labx.com.au
WM
Hi ! Thanks ! Wow ! So many great suggestions. Think I'll try a few out nearer to where I am during the day and see which one suits. That's great ! It does sound like there are a few that I have access to quite nearby, so that is even better. I'll take your advice Kelvin, and shut my wallet.........perhaps a shiny Leica M6 lying around ? Haha !
