john_a.
It was a nice day to hang with Leica reps and fellow fans at the park. I must say there was alot of activity around the tent all day. I saw both M8's in black and silver. Those 2mm's in thickness are quite noticable but it basically feels like an M. The LCD layout is simple and intuitive. The shutter was suprising quiet even with the advance. Christian (leica rep) was there and told me that the current collapsable 50 elmar will NOT cause any damage to the sensor when collapsed. The M8 will be able to handle 4gig and ABOVE smart cards. Beware of the battery. It didn't make it through the day with one charge. That spare is a must. Leica is also offering 2 free coding updates when a new lens is purchased. Thought I'd share. Got a leica mouse pad, brochure and leica cloth bag to boot. All in all I'm glad I pre-ordered and am looking forward to using less film and.

trex1
They should have included a manual shutter advance option to save on battery power. I wonder what the battery draw would be if you had a manual shutter advance and never used the lcd? I wonder if a motor drives the shutter as well? The kind of shutter used on the OM-2 would have been nice for example. In any case, who cares whether its Leica that does this? The mount is now universally available and anyone with the skill to do it can make a digital M. I reckon our very own How Funny is working on on at this very moment in his kitchen.
