martianflash
Dear All I have got a deal from the local dealer for Canon PowerShot A80. Thebox and the camera say "Canon Inc. Made in China". Is it advisable orshall I try to buy a Japanese make? Any quality issues. I appreciateall the help and suggestions that you can provide!
markw
There are no quality issues between Japan or China made A80. I have China made A80 and there are no issues.
seth_prince
I recently bought the a80 from one store. After I took it out of the shop I notice the "made in China" label as well. This was a VERY reputable store, so I wasn't too concerned. But concerned enough to go to another store to pretend like I was shopping for the a80 from them. When I raised the issue with the sales person. He said that the first few batches of the a80 are made in Japan until the product is perfected. Then depending on price point, Canon will transfer production to China. From what it sounded like, most Japanese electronics companies do this with certain products that fall below a certain price point. All of their medium/high end products are kept in japan. So be happy that you reaped the benefits of dirt-cheap labor
martianflash
Thanks guys. I have decided to keep the Chinese model. Still have to test it though!
mike_elek
The only difference is the profit margin for Canon. Quality should be identical.
