leicamshooter
B+W Filters in Leica Chrome Finish? How thick is the rim, and do they have a cutout around the rim for clip-on lens hoods? I don't need the cutout on my current model 50mm summicron. I was just looking for a skylight, but Leica doesn't seem to manufacture them anymore. Apparently B+W does, and in Leica Chrome finish as well. Thank you for the replies.
william_john_smith
The filter does not need a cut out, the clip on lens hood slips by the filter and clips to the lens. I have B&W filters, 39mm on a Summicron and 46mm on a Summilux. I'm using Leica lens hoods in both cases. My filters are black but I doubt if that makes a difference. albert knapp md
Just make sure they sell you the newer "F-PRO" filter chrome mounts. Your filters should also be MRC (multi-resistant coating.) Make sure you get both of these points settled beforehand as they may still ahve some of the older filters yet unsold.
jay_.
Note also that it is possible to transplant the glass from B+W MRC filters into Leitz mounts if for example you have an older lens and for reasons of your own want to maintain the authentic look. If you have the tools and finesse you can DIY, otherwise any camera repair shop should be able to do it for very little. I helped a friend do this for some of the Leitz E43 filters for his older 50 Lux, where there are issues with the shade not fitting completely over other 43mm filters. david_s4
B+W calls their silver MRC filter line "Digital Pro." I don't know if it uses the "F-Pro" slim mount, as I don't have any other B+W filters to compare. But it fits a 35 Summicron ASPH with hood fine. I got mine at Robert White.
albert knapp md
Slim and F-Pro are incompatible. The F-Pro line was introduced in 2000 or 01 and is about 1-2mm thicker than the slim line. They are effective down to at least 28mm and the 24mm (at an opening of f/4 or less.)
