john grunke
Creating a presentation CD. I am in need of 8x10 scanner and would also like a 5mp or higher digital camera, but connot afford both. Sitting in the corner collecting dust is my old 4x5 to 35mm slide dupe set-up.Why not put the $$$ into a better Digital camera and use my copy standwith 8x10 trans on light box instead of a single use designated scanner.I cannot even begin to start doing the math comparisons! So any input into this idea is kindly welcome! Please forgive me if I missed this subject in the archives. John Grunke
benjamin_lineberry
I've actually done this with some success. I shoot my b+w negs on a Nikon 4300 P&S, then reduce them for posting online. It works pretty well. b.
michael_briggs2
A digital camera photo of a transparency will probably work well enough for proofing or creating digital files for web pages. It won't equal the quality of a film scanner. A relevant "feature" that I have seen in an inexpensive digital camera is strong barrel distortion in macro mode. tedharris
You don'tt have to spend a fortune to scan 8x10's. I do it all the time on my Microtek i900 (cost ~600) you can also do it with a number of older scanners from Heidleberg and UMAX that you can usually pick up for a song ... although they will nto have the same quality as the i900.
