jo_irps
I have an old Super Angulon 8/47 with Synchro Compur 00 shutter. It was not in use for some time but find that the speeds are lower than they should be, noticable in the low speed settings. I have talked to Schneider Kreuznach but they don't do CLA on 00 shutters anymore as they have no more parts available. Is there anybody who can recommend a specialised workshop, if possibly in Germany?
richard_oleson
This is not an answer to your question, but here are some notes on how to do it: http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-55.html I think these sketches may be identical to your lens/shutter. simon_bruxelles
I recentlyt asked a camera repairer to look at my Kodak Retina IIa which has a Compur shutter that's running slow on the slow speeds. His advice was to leave it alone. He said slow-running at 1 sec did not necessarily mean a problem with the faster speeds. He also said that in his experience these shutter never actually operate at the fastest 500th speed more than three times after an overhaul! More importent is to get used to the shutter working as it is rather than worry about getting quartz precision timing. Sorry if I've phrased this clumsily but I hope you know what I mean. mike_elek
If it's running slow, then I wouldn't worry too much. If it's stuttering on the slow speeds, particularly 1/2 and 1 second, then it probably will need serviced.
patric_dahl_n
I think any repairman that repair and adjust old cameras could clean the shutter for you.
winfried_buechsenschuetz1
Hardly any shutter I have cleaned in the past few years needed spare parts for repair. A good cleaning usually does the job. On the Synchro-Compur there are quite a few adjustments. If you want the shutter to run like new you should leave this to a specialist. In the US S.K. Grimes (or the company he founded) seems to do a good job.
jo_irps
Thanks for your kind responses. Compared with my 5.6/47 Super Angulon the old 8/47 speeds are running slower as I've got overexposed slides, and 1sec is stuttering in below 18C tempratures. I am an engeneer but don't want to disassemle the shutter by myself, it would be the first time, have to experiment first on something else I guess. In the meantime I've found someone in the Braunschweig/Germany area, ex mechanics from the old Voigtlander plant. I will be in Germany in about two weeks time and going to visit them too. __hank_boneroneo1
Follow Rick's advice short of taking it apart - just take it off the camera. You'll simply be rinsing the whole open-faced, glassless assembly in naptha, which will cure 99% of the gummies.
bacsa
Well, for me, on two synchro-compurs (although for medium format cameras) the cleaning was not enough. You could try Hans Klinkhamer in the Netherlands, it's almost Germany :) - he is a rollei specialist but might accept a LF shutter as well. www.dekamera.com. He's good. jo_irps
I've done what Hank suggested. I thought what the heck one day I have to try this. As I have two SA's and if anything would go wrong, I'd still have the newer one. Only the old one sits one my homemade 6x9 setup i.e converted Agfa Billy (took the bellow unit out and replaced it with an aluminium bracket to carry the lens unit), and as it is very small and light, it comes handy just like a Veriwide. However, my Compur looks a bit different as on Rick's drawings and photos and I could not take the gear assembly out of the unit, but managed to give the whole unit a good cleaning. Speeds are running perfectly now, no more stuttering and exact the same as my SA with Copal. Again thank's very much for your suggestions.
