m_w3
I just bought a Leafscan 45 for $80. But.... The only PC interface is GPIB, which I had never heard of until today. How do I do this? My computer only has USB ports. There appear to be two options - a USB-GPIB converter (500$!) or installing a GPIB card (200$). In case someone else here has been through this: 1. By installing the card and a driver, am I all set? In other words, will the Leafscan show up on my PC just like that? If so....2. Does anyone have experience with the best software version for XP?3. Can anyone tell me how/where to get a Twain driver for Photoshop? Any and all help is greatly greatly appreciated. Thanks.
scott_eaton
The GPIB interface is actually pretty robust and less of a hassle than SCSI when dealing with scanners and printers. Until Firewire and USB 2 came along, I'd take GPIP over a SCSI and COM/Printer ports any day. Not sure if National Instruments made a driver for your particular card, but here's their site: http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/versions.htm Second step is to get the LeafScan to work in XP via Twain, and you are clearly on your own in that regard. andy_ly1
I recently sold my leafscan 45 and have a GPIB (PCI slot) card with wire for sale if you're interested. It's yours for $150. Shoot me an email if interested. As for using XP, it will not work. You are more than likely required to install Windows 2000. I beleive it's due to the Leafscan software not being compatible with the 32 bit kernel of XP. Posting your question on the Leafscan forum will get you better help - good luck. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Leafscan/ Andy

kelly_flanigan1
I believe all the NT platforms are a 32bit Kernal; going back to the start of the New Technology. I would guess that there is a driver problem with XP.
