kaustubh
the subject says all about my question. Does anyone out there haveexperience with this combination ? if it does work, does it work in AFmode or MF on elan7e. I am debating between sigma 100-300 f/4 if ex hsm apo lens and thecanon 300 f/4 L IS lens. I already have sigma 1.4x that I use with mysigma 180mm ex if hsm apo macro lens. same Q for sigma 2x. Even if it were to work, i know that 600 f/8 canbe considered quite slow. Thanks in advance. Kaustubh
awindsor
Yes to the question about working. No idea about the quality. The Sigma TCs do not report the effective aperture. The camera will AF with the 1.4x anyway. The camera will attempt to AF with the 2x since it will report 4 as the maximum apeture not 8. Whether it succeeds depends on the ambient light and contrast of the subject.
awindsor
The lens appears on the extended compatibility chart. This may be helpful if you own other Canon lenses.
I was mistaken about the aperture information though. The Sigma does correctly report the aperture information. Apologies.
Hope that helps.
PS: Out of interest you might like to look at Pettteri's Pontifications TC shootout. Then again maybe not ;)
yakim_peled1
I have the 300/4 IS and wholeheartedly recommend it. Think about it: 1/60 under all shooting conditions and 1/15 !!! when you (well, actually I but I am sure everyone can achieve this) brace yourself against something. Happy shooting , Yakim.
