kermit_howell
I need help! I installed PhotoShop Elements 3.0 in my computer. I have Windows XP. I use a card reader to download photos and save them to the hard drive. I had this card reader installed and used it to download JPEG photos and work them in Paint Shop Pro long before I installed PSE 3.0. Heres the trouble I need help with. Before I installed PSE 3 I had taken a few RAW images, and downloaded them to a file on the hard drive. I then installed PSE 3. I was able to open the RAW images and work with them. Everythings great so far. Today I took some more RAW images. I put the compact flash card in the card reader (drive G on my computer) and it shows blank. It's as if there is no card there at all. I open PSE 3 and try to let it download images from drive G, and all the others it offered. Nothing. It's as if the card doesn't exist. I was unable to find any solution. I finally uninstalled PSE 3. Then the icon for my card reader suddenly has a question mark on it and it won't work anymore. I finally end up doing a system restore to put it back as it was before I tried to install PSE 3.0 . Can anyone offer advice on where I went wrong on the installation? I want to be able to download using the card reader and save the images to a file on the hard drive and then open them with either PSE 3 or Paint Shop Pro. What am I doing wrong? I need help please. malcolmdwyer
It's hard to tell for sure... but it sounds like the problem is with the card or card reader. I doubt Elements has anything to do with it. You said it was working with Elements for some time before you started having the problem today. Can you try a different CF card, and try the card reader on a different computer? Maybe you have a USB hub with problems(?). Good luck. paul_sokal___dallas__tx
Have you tried a different USB port? I've seen instances where one stopped working while the others were fine.
eric_c1
Doesn't sounds like its related to PSE at all. doesn't sound like you did anything wrong also. I could be window XP's problem. Here is some advices, May or may not help: 1. try to shoot some raw with a different card to see if the card read see it.2. try to plug the card reader into different USB port3. try a different card reader If everything is not working, I will try everything again in a different computer with XP. Than you may pin down what;s wong.
kermit_howell
I've got doubts that the problem is the card reader. The card reader had been installed on the system long before I installed PhotoShop Elements 3.0 . Ive used the card reader to download JPEG images for quite some time without problem. After I installed PSE 3.0 the card reader would no longer function. After removing PSE 3.0 and doing a system restore I was able to read the cards again and download images to the hard drive using the very same compact flash cards as before. It seems the problem started when I installed PSE 3.0 . Any other advice?
robert_herz
Hi, did you install SP2 on your computer in the meantime. If yes, you must force the system to re-install the USB drivers. After that, everything should work fine. Regards Robert
ronald_moravec1
At a seminar at Calumet they stated one of the two biggest problems are people removing the storage device from the computer after downloading WITHOUT DOING THE FINAL STEP OF TELLING THE COMPUTER AND CARD THE PROCESS IS OVER. I believe the solution is to reformat the storage card.
