dottie_cain
Hi. I just got a Nikon D70 for Christmas. I do not have one of the new 600/800 flashes so I tried my old SB22 in the A mode with the D70 in aperture priority. Every photo turned out GREAT! Why does every one say that you need to buy one of the new flashes to do flash photography when clearly that is not the case? Thanks.
streetlevel
You certainly don't have to use the newer flashes, but they do expand your options quite a bit. Glad you found a system that works for you.:)
bwcombs
Dottie, I have learned to use my old flashes (Vivitar 2500 and SB15) on my D70 as well, and find the results are very good. It has taken me a little time to figure out the right settings and such, but I've been pleased overall. Yesterday a friend loaned me his new SB600 to play with. I'm still learning the ins and outs, but it is an amazing tool with the D70. Maybe he'll forget he loaned it to me...
grant_.
the new ones are for the point and shoot morons that like auto everything....because thats what the camera becomes...i-ttl pretty much solves all flash problems...

the new flashes also have far more control than your old flash does....if thats worth 400$ to you, get one, if not stick with what works.. I trying to buy a bunch of these iTTL flashes as all of mine are manual flashes. It will certainly help me to get the exposures better. You seem like a very pleasant person, Grunt! tholte
Dottie, the great thing about digital cameras is that you can see if something worked right away. The old flashes will work fine once you figured out the proper settings. I have two SB24's and they also work fine but suck a lot of juice. The SB800 is much more energy efficient, seems to last forever. The D70 and SB800 in tandem is a morons delight, of which I are one and proud of it. cappoldt
Now I've seen everything - a camera manufacturer makes a flash system that works SO well that it's complained about, its users "morons" as opposed to 'smart shoppers' or 'photographers looking to do it a harder way than necessary.'...lol...Well, if Nikon is reading this, I'm sure they're glad its not the other way around. ondrej_appelfeld
Hey guys, I've got Nikon D70. I had the flash SB-27 but it didnt automatically work with the camera, so I bought new flash...SIGMA EF-500 DG SUPER...there were two options but they were both called same..so I bought the cheaper one..but now, the problem is, that the cheaper one is probably missing the fated "iTTL"! Therefore in automatic mode it doesn't work with the camera either. Is it possible? thanks a lot for your answers.
vivek iyer
While shopping around for a flash, I realized this. The newer one, called Sigma EF-550 DG Super II, is the one that will do iTTL. Sorry to hear that you got the wrong one. Safe bet is SB-600 or SB-800. Sorry.
ondrej_appelfeld
Hey, thanks for answering, but I don't think there is any version called ef-550 DG Super there is only 500 (but newer version). Anyways, ths shop offeres 14 days to send stuff back...I hope that they will change it, if I pay off the different. Thanks
vivek iyer
Yes, it is EF-500 DG Super II. Box should specifically say iTTL for D2H and D70.
