alex_gonzalez
What a great camera...I'm lucky enough to be allowed to try thiscamera before purchase (private). When I turn the camera on it willshow (left side LEDs) "batt full" with a fully charge pack ofcourse...after a while, I start getting (only at turn on)a messagestarting with "batt=5", and continue down...=4,=3, etc. Is this theremaining charge as a percent of full charge? ...the manual makes noindication on this!Thank you. michael_fabijanic
I'm not sure that the charge level corresponds to a percent. But if the camera says "batt=5" when you turn it on, my experience is that you've got about enough battery life to finish the roll your shooting and maybe a bit more... I seem to remember in cold weather at Yosemite shooting an entire roll over 15-20 minutes when it was "batt=2".
thomas_diekwisch1
The numbers indicate approximate number of rolls of 120 film left at room temperature. I have found them to be fairly accurate.
vijay_nebhrajani
Thomas is correct. This time, I had a little power emergency; I had about 10 frames to go when the battery died - after the usual countdown (batt=4,3,2...); however, once the battery went off, I simply switched the camera on again and continued firing. The important thing is that the camera did not mess up the shutter timing or the aperture with the low battery. I got good exposures. Somebody designed this well. tak_l._poon1
I would like to share my experience on a Rollei product. The battery indicator falls very quickly in cold weather. If the ambient temperature is below zero the battery indicator drops significantly. even if you have a spare battery in your bag the battery would be dead when you take it out. There is a power extension cable not very expensive by Rollei's standard. With it you can keep your battery next to your underwear and plug the other end into the camera body. I have found this device very useful in cold places. Regards, Tak
alex_gonzalez
Thank you all for your comments...I found out that once "batt=5" appears the first time, it goes down very fast and a fresh charged pack should be used.
doug_brightwell1
<<If the ambient temperature is below zero>> Is that zero farenheit or celcius? At what temperature does one have to really consider the battery extension cord? If the battery "dies" due to the cold, does it come to life again when warmed up? I haven't yet shot in cold weather, but I have three batteries and figured I would just rotate them. As the one in the camera got cold and drained, I figured I'd rotate it with one that had been kept warm in an inner pocket, and so forth. Perhaps this shows how little attention I paid in high school physics class, but when a battery "looses" a charge due to cold, is it just temporarily disabled, or is the charge actually erased? tak_l._poon1
Hi, I did not check this thread and I missed the last comment. I have no background chemistry knowledge on the subject and the below zero was probably an approximation or a rough guide. It was Celcius that I was referring to. My experience was that the charge in the battery would be gone when it is kept in a cold environment for some time (probably several minutes) and the LED would read batt=2 or less, and I have to recharge it in the normal way. The battery is not damaged, though. Regards, Tak
