thomas_martin3
Is this the same as the regular 50mm Summicron, current version? It is listed on Leica's site, but no dealers seem to have it--why?
majid
A high-priced collectible. Check out Erwin Puts' write-up (I hesitate to use the word "review"...). john_collier2
Out of production now but Rich at photovillage.com has (or had) one yesterday. Same optics as the current 50/2.
john_a.
I got one from Rich over the summer. its pretty neat.
jay_.
To me the 50-Jahre Summicron is the best design of all, which Leica just happened to blunder on while re-creating a toy for the fondlers: It has the latest optics, accepts the clip-on shade and the nice, smaller swing-out polarizer, yet has no obnoxious finger tab or--charitably, but due undoubtedly to Leica's costcutting vs actually thinking of users in mind--the horrible infinity lock of the original chrome rigid it tries to emulate. If this lens weren't so grossly overpriced I'd have one. I really think Leica should make it in black anodized and replace the current Cron with it. george_b1
For once, I can agree with Jay. My grandchildren gave me two lenses for my birthday - - the 24 mm and this 50mm "50 Year." (I don't know whether they took out a second mortgage or not). Refusenicks aside, it balances well and is a joy to use. I really like the capability to use the older swing-out polarizer and the clip-on lens shade. My other 50mm (tabbed, clip-on lens shade) is up for sale. alan_simon
Thomas, I too just purchased one from Rich at Photo Village, although my grandchildren were not as generous as George's. It looks great on any chrome camera and on the new LHSA Hammertone MP. I've already sold my old-tabbed version 'cron and my 'lux as well. This lens does have all the best features-it would be great if Leica used the scalloped focussing ring on all of their lenses.
jay_.
Oh no! The Penultimate Tabbed Cron knocked from it's throne! Who'll fondle the poor things now?
ray .
Some of us actually shoot with them and like that tab thingy just fine for... quick focus!
dan_brown4
I agree with Jay too! The 50Y50 'cron is about as close to perfect as a lens can get. Put it on a chrome MP, and wooo-hooo!
john_r._fulton_jr.
Too bad they didn't make it in black I can't imagine putting a chrome lens on a black body. How crude. :->)
petteri_pavas
Optically it is supposed to be similiar, whatever, I have no complaints. Mount is different, and there is no built in shade, but a separate one. I like to use it, it is pretty. I think it is OK on black body.
john_r._fulton_jr.
Petteri---I was trying to provode Dan Brown, but he's probably stopped reading this thread. I saw him Sunday and he gave me some grief about my black M with a chrome 35 Lux-asph. Soooo, I'm sure it would look fine, too.
