bob haight
Auction 3817015349 for a TTL Green Paint Millenium on Ebay is interesting. Seller has no feedback and uses Steve Gandy's description and pictures for the item at a price ofr $1800 with no reserve. Interesting.
simon_ball1
I suspect not! As you suggest the photos and description are lifted from cameraquest.com This is a regular scam.
bert_keuken2
The photo's aren't lifted from Cameraquest, the "seller" has linked to the photo's on the cameraquest server instead...
patricks
regarless, total scam
bert_keuken2
We ought to ask the seller to provide some more pictures of the M6 he's selling. I would be interested to see what happens. Did you see the seller is a "Member since May-14-04", that's only six days ago.
terry_rory
If you know this item to be a fraudulent auction then should'nt e-bay be told? (For the sake of any unsuspecting non-Leica expert who may lose 1800 dollars.) I know nothing about 'special' Leicas and am not a collector with that sort of knowledge. (I would'nt have even thought of looking at properties on the picture.)
shambrick007
I already sent an email to Gandy. He's a popular target for this type of scam.
djl251
This happens almost every day. This is not a particularly good effort on the part of the seller-criminal. It's usually a 3-day private auction with a western union payment to a brand-new no-feedback seller. Doesn't seem that ebay cares enough to stop it.. Karim Ghantous
::evil grin:: Why not tell Steve Gandy to just... change the pics? They're being linked to, right? (very bad manners). So... instead of an M6 the pics could be changed to, oh, I don't know, stick figure drawings, porn, political posters... >:-D
tom5
Karim - that is a great idea. If I were in control of the web site, it would be done now. But, let's be a bit more subtle. I'd prefer a picture of a Time Magazine plastic giveaway camera. Or, a camera someone gave me awhile ago at my birthday - the Nikon-not, a plastic camera with the name Nikon-not painted on the front. peter_evans4
<p>It's still there, so I thought I'd tell eBay. Of course, eBay is notorious for its lack of interest in such matters, but still. . . . So I got as far as http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_inline/report_listing.html but found that it's broken. It just doesn't work with the browser that I happen to use (Konqueror). When I look <a href="http://htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/validate.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fpages.ebay.com%2Fhelp%2Fcontact_inline%2Freport_listing.html&warnings=yes&input=yes" title="What a validator makes of this page">here</a>, the surprise is that this crappy page works with any browser at all. I thought for a moment that the most popular website in the history of the universe would feel some obligation to have a usable complaints system, but of course I temporarily forgot that 21st-century American institutions are answerable to nobody. "Shut up while we make money off you!"</p>
djl251
I reported this auction to EBAY (particularly the use of someone elses pictures and text) and today received the following response: Hello, Thank you for taking the time to contact us with this information. I understand how this situation could be of some concern. I have reviewed the information that you provided regarding Item #3817015349, but at this point find that I do not have enough evidence to show that the member has violated any eBay rules. Unfortunately, we will only be able to take action if the owner of the image or text writes to us. In some instances, certain members will allow others to use their images. It is also possible that they acquired the image from a mutual source. Therefore, we often cannot remove listings based on the representations of third parties whose credentials we cannot verify. We do understand the potential for further issues in this type of situation. That is why, if you feel strongly about this issue, we recommend you contact the seller(s) to advise them of the information and recommend they contact us directly. Once we hear from them, we will take appropriate action. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us with your concerns. Thank you for your participation in the eBay community. Regards, Leland eBay Community Watch I see that the auction no longer exists today.
shambrick007
When I emailed Gandy, he said that he's have ebay stop the auction.
