marc_rolph
I'm getting a 10d soon. I'm a professional videographer, who's looking to make photography a serious hobby and maybe make a few dollars. I have a Rebel 2000, with a Sigma 500DG Super flash. If I might get into portrait work, or weddings, should I get a Canon 550ex to put on the 10D with the Sigma flash on the Rebel for back-up and/or slave flash on stand, or should I get a strobe set-up with maybe a soft-box. The 550ex is around $300, so I wouldn't want to deviate too much from that cost.
cjogo
One Strobe --on camera--with a bounce card---all we have used for 25 years. No need to get too fancy...Except if you are seriously heading into portraits indoors...need larger strobes with modeling lights. cjogo
wedding-photography-denver
The 550ex works well as a main for most things (with a softener/card). I have used it successfully on a 10D and 300D. Studio work is a little different as C Jo has already noted. More control needed for that.<div></div>
gerard
Go for the 550EX and later you can add more flashes to your setup, to have 'light on the move'. The wireless capabilities of the 550EX are great to create some soft light indoors and outdoors. (See example)<br>-regards,<br>Gerard.<div></div>
