casey mcallister
Does the AF assist work with this cord?

simonpg
I recall reading in an instruction book that it does not. The logical reason being that the beam bould not be aligned to the lens. For that reason, the best off camera flash set up is with the STE (?)transimitter mounted on the camera - assists AF and triggers the flash unit off camera. michiel_bernhard
I read in EOS magazine something about functions who do work with the cord but Canon officialy can't advertise this because it breaks an american technical regulation. Sorry I can't be more precize but I read i some time ago.
bill.akstens
I use an Off Camera Shoe Cord 2 (OCSC2) with a stroboframe bracket between my ElanIIe and 420ex flash. Never had any problems using autofocus with this. Granted, I use fast lenses (f/1.8, f2.8) which is supposed to make autofocus easier/faster. stephenwagnerphoto.com
While I don't know about EOS magazine, the instruction sheet that comes with OCSC2 is pretty clear.<div></div>
