graeme_lowe
Hi, My EOS500 decided to lock up after taking a picture. It tried to wind on but died. All I get now is "bc" in the LCD. The batteries are new. I've tried other lenses. Can anyone tell me what this might be? thanks Graeme
david_lau3
"bc" only on the LCD means camera malfunction. It is the result of the self diagnosis in the camera when something has gone wrong in the electronic circuit. Have you tried taking away the battery and then reload to see what happens? If it is the same then the only way is to send it back to Canon. This "bc" thing has been with Canon cameras for a long time. I got it with my T90 10 years ago. eddie_chan4
I had the same experience long long time ago. I did two things to fix it. 1) Take the batteries out and let the camera stand without the batteries for one night. 2) Clean those tiny lens contacts on the camera. eosdoc
BC can mean all sorts of things:
http://eosdoc.com/manuals.asp?q=BCerror
Perhaps Eddie Chan's suggestions could mean "Bleed Charge" - i.e. leave the battery out so that the camera is reset. Or "Buff and Clean" - i.e. clean and degrease the contacts in the lens mount.
graeme_lowe
Ok thanks. I'll try giving it a clean. Left the batteries out for a while, but that had no effect. I'm not too bothered as I just bought myself a 300D, but would be nice to get the old girl working again. Graeme
bruise_lee1
Maybe you should try to shake or move you reflect mirror. I repair a EOS500's shutter just touch it when it is locked. Be careful...
