desmond_kidman
I have searched the forum because I have seen this issue addressed, but the search function is not returning the threads I remember reading. Specifically, I remember folks saying that the porarized viewfinder parts for a current Leica RF can be dropped rignt in my M6 and that this will solve the problem. I remember Leica USA as well as a noted independent repair place doing the job. Could somebody repeat for me exactly what I need to specify, and suggestions for who I should have do the job? I recently took a Mamiya 7 on a trip, and the total lack of any viewfinder flare showed me just how much I hate the M6 viewfinder. I was instantly focusing the 7 and enjoying the process of shooting. In contrast, focusing my M6 is a very frustrating operation. On my unit even a bright overcast sky causes flare. If it were not for this fix I would sell my M6 and always use the Mamiya. I'm hoping the fix makes the Leica as usable and enjoyable as my Mamiya. Thanks for the help.
john_morris4
You could sell the M6 and use an M4. Probably not quite the helpful answer you deserve, though.
kevin m.
I just sent my M6TTL to DAG for the 'flare-free' viewfinder upgrade after hearing good things about both it, and his service. He charges $185 for the job. His contact info can be found <a href=http://www.dagcamera.com/>HERE</a>
kevin m.
I just remembered that I'm having some framelines removed from my finder as well, so I'm not sure if the $185 price he quoted me is any more than he would normally charge for the finder upgrade alone. Perhaps someone else can chime in...?
stuart d
Armando, Two weeks ago I received my M6 TTL 0.58 back from John Van Stelten at Focalpoint in Louisville, CO (www.focalpointlens.com) complete with the VF upgrade. It's not exactly the same as the components used in the new MP / M7 viewfinder, but it's pretty damned effective. Since I got my M6 back, I'd say that the incidents of VF flare have been reduced 90% or more. It's a significant improvement. John charged $30 for the parts and $150 for the labor. So you might want to consider combining it with a CLA to get more bang for your buck. I've heard that Leica NJ will charge about $250 for the same job. andrew n.bra hrefhttp
FWIW there's also a general discussion about RF patch flare and various fixes in the Leica FAQ I maintain at:<p> <<a href="http://www.nemeng.com/leica/020b.shtml"> http://www.nemeng.com/leica/020b.shtml</a>>
feli
Look here. Golden Touch, kinderman, Leica NJ, DAG, Focal Point can do this upgrade. Call for turnaround times! Some of these places are really busy! Feli http://www.lhsa.org/repair.html
david_dimaria
I have tried the tiny tinted plastic thing that fits over the frameline window and I am really suprised at how well it works. It's only a few bucks, try leicagoodies.com. I was really skepticle at first but I would highly recommend it if your funds are short.
__jon__
DAG did my M6 a few months back. I haven't been able to make it flare since.
