shiqf
Is it possible to get a good print at the size of 8x10 or 11x14 from 100-400mm/IS + 1.4x TC, if there is no other technical failure? I understand well that it's not a good idea to add a TC to a zoom. Also there is no AF for my 300D. But I could only afford a 1.4x TC. Thanks! jimstrutz
I don't know about the image quality. Some say this lens isn't very sharp at the long end, and others say that's when it is at its best. What ever, it's bound to be less sharp & contrasty with a TC, but it still might be good enough, and at least some types of images could still hold up well at 11x14. But if you purchased a third party 1.4x TC that does not change the reported aperture, the camera will think it is still an effective f/5.6 lens, and will still AF. Actually, the 300D/DRebel is remarkably good when focusing with an effective f/8 lens, as long as it doesn't know it. It's much better than most other Canon EOS cameras. phyrpowr
About four or five years ago I went to a George Lepp seminar, and he had printed fantastic shots , 11x14 and larger, using a 100-400 at 400mm, with a 2x TC, on what is now older generation printer, shot with an older generation camera , D60 I think, though it may have been a D30 So the answer is a definite yes, it is possible to do
john_nastelin1
Remember, unless you have a "pro" body you will be using manual focus and the viewfinder will be very dim. Getting a sharp focus will probably be your biggest challenge when enlarging to 11x14.
