ericlabrecque
Anybody heard of Vivitar 836afc flash ? I have one but it is broken. Should i make it fix ? One of my friend is selling a Canon 200e. Is that better ??? It's the first time that i use external flash on a camera (Digital rebel). Opinion would be welcome. jimstrutz
Neither the Vivitar 836afc, nor the Canon 200E will work on a Digital Rebel. They are both TTL flash units and the D-Rebel requires an E-TTL capable flash unit. Either, or both, may actually fire on the D-Rebel, but neither will have any flash metering so most pictures would be overexposed. On the other hand, they may not even fire when mounted on the D-Rebel. Is it possible that your Vivitar 836afc is not acutally broken, but just won't work, or work right, on the D-Rebel? You need a Canon EX series flash for use with any Canon digital SLR. There are also a few third party manufacturers who make flash units that work with the Canon D-SLRs.
