CF card will not format

I have a digital rebel with a compactflash 256 card. The last time I

downloaded my images using a Sandisk reader, I formatted the card in

the PC and tried to use the camera but the camera will not even turn

on with the CF card in place. I bought a new card and it works fine

but I have not been able to get the original card to work in the

camera. Any suggestions?

is digital rebel support FAT32? If not, then you need a window 98/nt to format your card back to FAT. When you format under STUPID MICROSOFT XP WINDOW, it format at FAT32, and there is no option for FAT.

To avoid this problem in the future only format your card in the camera.

I, too, unfortunately learned this lesson the hard way. Thankfully, it was cheaper SmartMedia. It took me two cards to figure out that you do NOT format using anything other than the camera (brand, at least) that you use the media in.

 

I spent a lot of time searching for, and almost found, a utility to reformat the cards in the camera maker's format. Nothing worked.

 

I don't have any information on CF cards and what would cause it to not work. With the SmartMedia cards, it was a certain bit that got overwritten. I know the DRebel (of which I have one) can use FAT32, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work though.

 

Try to find a Window 98/ME computer and see about formatting it using FAT instead of FAT32.
