emily_hines
I have a Brownie 620 that I am trying to start using. It seems to bein good condition but does not have a cartridge upon which one wouldroll the used end of the film. I gather that these cartridges arejust the empty spools from rolls of 620 film -- is this true? If so,what is the best way to get one of them? I was planning to buy some620 film from J&C Photography, but would I be able to buy an extraspool from them, or do I have to scavenge one from an old camera, etc.? I'd appreciate anyone's help. Cheers,Emily
john_shriver
It is indeed the spool from an empty roll of 620 film. You buy an expired roll of 620 film on eBay, or at a camera show. I think the J&C 620 film is a 120 film spool turned down, so it doesn't have the smaller keyhole on the end that a 620 spool has. Also, depending on the camera model, you may be able to fit a 120 spool in the supply side, either as-is, or after nipping off the bead at the edge of the flange with nail clippers. Search on Google for: respooling 620 film It's fun to use 120 and 620 cameras. Just be sure to get the empty 620 spool back if you don't process your own film. mike_brown13
I frequent garage sales and flea markets. Whenever I see an older 620 camera I check it for spools, then ask the seller if they would mind selling me just the spool. It has worked a few times, and of course the majority of the time they say no.
emily_hines
Hey thanks dudes. What I did was, I bought a lot of 4 metal spools on ebay. I should be able to respool some 120 film onto them -- the problem is solved. Cheers, Emily
andrew_gormley
Depedning on the camera, 120 film may fit in without much trouble. I just bought a six-20 Model E, and with the original 620 spool as the take up spool, a roll of 120 fits in the top. I only had to trim the diameter down of one side (The side that is not pressed upon by the stainless steel wee clippy thing). The film winds through nicely.
