ZX-7 wireless remote

I think Patrick was inquiring about wireless remotes.
Here's one.
But I'd first risk the $3 and see if this one works with that older model body. I have five or six of these scattered in bags and pockets and they work great. Worse thing is you can use it with your DSLR.

I think Patrick is referring to the IR remote. Strangely the ZX-7 manual doesn't list it by name in the accessories section at the end.

I am pretty sure it takes the same IR remote as the DSLRs, etc. that followed it, Remote Control F. For that matter, I think any Pentax IR remote will work. There's an older one (Remote Control E, I think?) that was used with the Espio film point & shoots that had an additional button for zooming the lens. I suspect this will work as well (but not the zoom button). There's also snazzy new waterproof IR remote 'WP'.

As for remotes that connect to the camera by wire, I believe the ZX-7 was one of the last cameras to use the older 3-pin Cable Release F that Matt linked to. This was introduced with the first autofocus bodies, the SF series. It was phased out with bodies slightly newer than your ZX-7 -- the ZX-L/MZ-6/MZ-S/*ist, and all the digital bodies use a 2.5mm miniplug (CS-205) that is generally compatible with consumer-level Canon equipment (Rebel, etc.). There are various third-party radio triggers that can connect through this socket. This is what Michael is referring to, though that first radio trigger would work with the 2.5mm plug rather than the 3-pin connector your ZX-7 accepts. Maybe someone makes a RF trigger for the Pentax Cable Release F connector, but I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't the case since this is now an obsolete proprietary connector. (It wouldn't be that hard to jerry rig splice a Cable Switch F plug with a newer trigger though).

The advantage of RF triggers is much better range and doesn't require line of sight and works better in bright daylight. Generally speaking though I've found Remote Control F has worked well enough for me.

Thanks all. I have a an IR remote for my DL if I could only find it. I think it is an F or maybe a D. I did see one that was a C .(I think )listed in an older model Pentax book. so was not sure which one would work. looks like I may need to only get one to replace the awol one to operate both cameras. again thanks.
I just got a cable release for the ZX-7 as someone was going to throw it in the trash. I do prefer wireless
P.S. why are they so small to easy to get lost.
