alex_ryan
What do zoom lens do to print quality? Specifically, would it be better, if photographing a concert, to use a 35-135 Kiron lens or a 135 fixed canon lens?
awahlster
what size print you make will have a big effect on what if any differance yopu would see between the two lenses in a print. BUT for academic discussions the Canon 135mm is most likely going to give you the sharpest prints. Of course if you happen to need a 35mm lens then the 135mm will be a bit tight. casualcollector
In available light situations, I would opt for the fixed lens. An f 3.5 prime will have the advantage over an f 3.5 zoom. There will be noticeably better light transmission through the 5 element tele than through the 10 to 15 element zoom. If you have the Canon 135/2.5 you'll have another half stop over the 2.8. if you can afford the f 2 version it's a no brainer choice.
alex_ryan
to be more specific: I have a 135mm 1:3.5 lens and a 35-135mm 3.5-4.5 I also have a 50mm and 28-80 for other shots
pensacolaphoto
Definitely the fixed focal length lens. It will allow you sharper results.
