sergio maretz
Hi, I am targeting a second-hand H1 or H2 body, to replace the less convenient 503CX with no integrated metering. Is is feasible to shoot handheld with a H body with a zoom HC 50-100, or is it damn too heavy? Thanks for sharing your experience. NB: I still have a D200, which is gathering dust, just in case... jeff.grant
I wouldn't attempt to use the 50-110 handheld. It is a brick, a very sharp brick but still a brick. It might be OK in the studio but it wouldn't be fun to wander around with. Check out the Hasselblad website for the weights of the H and lense. ymages
Jeff I wanted also to buy that lens, you don't use it for landscape photography ? I am having a 35, 80, 210 , do you think it is better to buy the HC50mm ? ( the 35 is too wide for me )
ymages
I mean with tripod of course
jeff.grant
Erick, I use it most of the time. It is a great lense on a tripod. I have the 28, 80, 150 and 210 also but the zoom sees most of the action.
sergio maretz
It looks like the outfit H1+zoom is not the ideal setup to stroll around the cities of the developing world. But it is only 500 gr. heavier than the D3+70-210. 3.1 kg vs 2.6kg. Of course no VR in the HC.
jeff.grant
Serge, you may be stronger and fitter than me. My choice for strolling is an M8. My reasoning is that the likelihood of getting something better than a good tourist shot doesn't justify the weight.
sergio maretz
You are right. Jeff. I am going to dump my utopian plan, clean my D200, fit it with a Zeiss 2.8/25 and take some interesting shoots anyway, without attracting a crowd trying to guess who is the heavy-weight lifter hiding behind the huge piece of glass. I will keep the Hassie and the 4x5 for the Swiss alps, fixed on a solid tripod. Thanks for the advise, which makes me save $6000!
paul_gardener
Horses for courses. A good Carl Zeiss lens with the D200 will be a better choice. The H series can be used as a handheld camera but will require a fit and powerfull body to handle them. Even when you are fit and powerfull chances are you will regret choosing this outfit after 4-5 hours strolling in cities.
joey1
Yes, quite feaseable but rather bulky. Covered a couple of events with it along w/digital Nikon camera. Attracts too much attention and you wont neccessarily capture the decisive moments due to Hassy's presence. Not quite as heavy as a Pentax 67II with lenses, I assure you!
