bruce_willey
Just signed up for Zenfolio and I'm kinda feeling buyer's remorse. What, if any, websites do you guys use for putting up an easy portfolio without going to the hassle and expense of making your own website?

Thanks!

david_henderson
I used Zenphoto for my site www.photography001.com though I used a designer to configure the site to my requirements.

Damon DAmato
May I ask what it is about Zenfolio you don't like?
bruce_willey
Thanks All. David, your work is amazing. Really enjoyed the landscapes. Nice eye.
quick question: are you signed up at the pro-level to get that level of customization?
Damon, I guess I'd say it looks sort of generic, in particular the bars. But I'm still learning and am likely not using all of Zenfolio's features. Not sure of the limits in customization with the $40 membership.

Stock-Photos
I joined Zenfolio about 8 months ago and print sales have almost paid for my $100.00 annual fee.

The important thing is to have a target market for your prints. I target several US states and I have several "appropriately named" links to my Zenfolio pages, on my other sites.

My Zenfolio page currently comes up number 8 on Google for the general term photos for sale .
damon_billian
I have some resources for selling photos online on my blog (worked in fulfillment briefly). SmugMug and Zenfolio seem to be fairly popular options across the forums I visit.
Keep in mind that you will have to do a fair amount of marketing to make things work for you.
michael_heitmann
I'll second Bruce on that. Zenphoto is the way to go.
I signed up with Digital Railroad three years ago. Didn't mind the $50 a month fee so much, but got burnt when they went belly up--insolvency! I had put a lot of effort (and time) into uploading my photos with them.
So ask a computer-savvy friend to install Zenphoto on YOUR OWN WEBSITE. Or do it yourself - it's fairly easy. Once it's installed, no special programming skills are required. You can upload photos, edit, create albums, choose themes etc. all over a web-based interface.
Please have a look at my website, which is entirely based on Zenphoto and the amazing Zenfocus theme:
http://pragueinphotos.com
If I can help, I'd be glad to answer any questions.
Michael
