Zeiss ZF50 on a F6 body focusing question.

If I put a Zeiss ZF50 1.4 lens on the F6, will the focus indicator default to

the central autofocus spot, or still allow me to get focus indication using any

of the sensors as I select? Are their any other limitations or quirks when

using non cpu manual lenses in the autofocus system?

You should still be able to select any of the focusing points has I recall but I haven't touched

an F6 since Spring of 2005 and that was the case when I used it with Nikkor Ai-S lenses. if

the lens is AI_S compliant you'll also be able to program the focal length andthe maximum

aperture into the camera so you can use Matrix metering as well.

You can use any of the focus brackets for focus-confirmation with AI / AIS lenses such as the ZF50. Regardless of which bracket is selected for use in focus-confirmation, only the center bracket will spot-meter despite it not being illuminated if another bracket is chosen for f-confirmation. No quirks or limitations since the AF system cannot be utilized w/ non-cpu glass...distincly different from focus-confirmation.

With the nice viewfinder of the F6 you should also be able to focus as you see the image on the screen. I think depending on the lens, the conditions and the subject one or the the other may work better. I do not use an F6 but this is from my experience with the F5.
