cody_moore1
Good Afternoon,

I picked up a Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 521/2 today at garage sale. Speeds all work well, glass is in great shape and the leather bellows are still light tight. Sadly I did not notice until after I got home with the camera, that the body mounter shutter release is in no way connected to the release on the Prontor-S Shutter. Does anyone know where I can find parts to reconnect the shutter release, or should I just use the camera by tripping the shutter on the lens itself. The Lens is a 3.5 Novar Anastigmat. Any help is greatly appreciated.
JDMvW
On my Ercona I ( re-named 521/2 made in the Soviet Zone, as it was, link) there is double-exposure protection and the film has to be wound on, before the on-body trigger will work. There are mechanical bar-like connections under the bellows and struts that do the work on mine that would be difficult to remove.

It's a little awkward to trigger the front lever without jiggling the camera, or that would work fine.

There is good reason to think that the Tessar is superior, but I have Novar lenses on a number of oldies, and they mostly do just fine.
allancobb
Are you saying there are components of the linkage from the under the shutter release all the way to the shutter that are missing? If everything looks like it's there, wind the film advance knob as JDM suggests until you see the indicator window turn red and hear a slight audible "click."

Otherwise, I think your options are to use the front shutter lever or send it for repair; one of the more noteworthy people who specialize in these cameras is Jurgen.

Good luck and keep us posted!
cody_moore1
Thanks gentlemen for the help!

Does there have to be film in the camera to get the reed indicator? Currently I wind and wind but no indication. The mechanical bar connections seem to be missing components sadly. I guess my options are to use it as is or find a parts camera?

JDMvW
Not all models have an indicator. On my Ercona, you do hear a click when the knob is wound on. Also on mine, for some unknown reason, it is hard to turn the spool with no film and the back closed on the camera. Try opening it up before winding a bit, then try the shutter release.

Your pictures don't quite show the salient details in sharp focus, but it looks to me like the mechanism is there.
