ronald_breeze
Ok, this is just for fun so please leave out any axes to grind and respect all opinions expressed here. The question is "What is your favorite camera and why?" Although this is a Leica forum it doesn't have to be a Leica. For instance my favorite camera is the Nikon F3 HP for the silky smooth film advance, accurate metering, that wonderful HP viewfinder and of course the feel of it in the hand. I consider it Nikon's Leica. Coming in second, but probably will usurp the Nikon shortly, is the Leica M8, which is proving to be an extremely useful photographic tool in that it gives me color, B&W and B&W IR (not the maroon IR). Let's hear from you.
karl_graf
I don't have a favorite camera but perhaps the Nikon F3 HP will be.
dstate1
The Leica III with Elmar 3.5. Everything else is too big and little better!
pensacolaphoto
Mine are the Leica M3 and the Canon F1N. Both are crafted first-class quality, and both are great for photography purposes. The F1N allowed me to use spotmetering at the time when Nikon cameras didnot offer spotmetering. It is a camera I can trust for difficult terrain hikes. The M3 does not need justification or praise; it is a masterpiece. Raid

sitemistic
O.K. I'll play. Leicaflex SL...everything that an SLR needs to be combined with the finest finder I've ever used. Second place would be a tie between the M3 and the Olympus OM1...great cameras in very different ways. Still have all of the above.

peter_muller3
Probably the Linhof Technorama 617III with 72mm Schneider lens. It weighs a ton, and is totally manual (how many times have I forgotten to advance the film, or advanced it twice by mistake?!), but it can produce 6x17 transparencies that are breath-taking...when I'm smart enough to do everything right! Even the graduated center filter is a work of art.
andrew robertson
I think the Minox B is one of the greatest cameras of all time. It's small enough that you really have no excuse to be without it, no matter what! Also with really fine grained film amazing things are possible with the Complan lens. Also the Sawyer (Topcon) 4x4 TLRs. They are just gorgeous. Maybe better than a Rolleiflex in terms of both build and image quality.

ronald_moravec1
Leica 111f or M2 or my new Nikon D200 with 18/70. Got a nice Zone VI 4x5 and 6 lenses. Guess I like all good cameras.

doug herr
Leicaflex SL, for the spot meter, the silky smooth mechanics, servicability, lenses and especially for the viewfinder. I wish I could cram the DMR's sensor and electronics into it.

keirst
M7 with 0.58X Finder, because it is the best camera for use with 28mm lenses. It focuses them more accurately than an SLR, and the lower magnification finder gives some breathing room to the framelines. Also the M7 cameras count up when on bulb which is great for timing night shots on a tripod. The shutter sound is a quiet 'snick' from 1/8 to 1/1000s. stuart_richardson
I like a lot of cameras, but I suppose my all-time favorite would be my black .72 MP. It was my first Leica, it works like a dream, I have taken many of my best pictures on it, it is simple, accurate and a joy to use. It is discreet but elegant...you can use it in almost any situation for normal photography. It's just a great camera. This is it...it seemed to fit with the table settings at this cafe that I liked in Japan and I had to finish the roll on my other camera.

part workhorse, part thoroughbred. summitar
At the high end of $$$, Canon T90. At the low end of $$$, Konica auto S2 which provides the most bang for the buck. The Leica M3 would at the top if it had TTL. The Leica IIIf would be very close to the top if had a decent vf/rf. My Contax IIA is very close to the M3. I have a Nikon HP F3 and I rate it even with the M3. For completeness, my favorite digital camera is the Canon A620, a near ideal take anywhere camera. robert_landrigan
My M6 - all the Leica goodness with a meter. I've played with an M3 and love the feel, but i need the security blanket of a meter:) Nikon F2AS - Older than me and more reliable. I admit that the brassing makes the camera for me:) EOS A2 - the first camera that i bought brand new and all by meself, wonderful ergonomics. Still have shot the majority of my favorites with this camera - and i love the side strap with the vertical grip, ala the M5.

eric rose
My all time favorite camera is my Rolleiflex. It's a pleasure to use, everything is tight and precise. The lens is very sharp, it's light and quite. Even quieter than the Leica. The leather case smells nice too.
