yellowing of negatives

Recommended Posts

OK, so my friend developed some of my B&W negatives for me today. 1

roll of Ilford HP5 and FP4. He called me and told me that he had some

problems, the film went yellowy and milky. After developing the 1st

roll (the FP4) he changed the fix but the problem happened again on

the HP5. He then developed several rolls of his own film with no

problems. I looked for other posts on this topic but most deal with

yellowing of prints, not the negatives... Any Ideas?

I'd bet it's a fix problem.
Can the damage be undone? Don't no -- I suspect that not doing anything is gonna be a lot worse then refixing & rewashing though.
I should add I think you should stay away from your friends fix even if he claims it's now alright.

Most likely the fixer was exhausted or not properly diluted. You can simply refix and rewash them to get rid of it. First, presoak them in water for up to 5 minutes before fixing them. If you know the film is what you say, there isn't really anything else that could cause it.
