jimmy_rhyne
I recently bought a Mat 124 for $100. I love the camera but cannot figure out what some of the levers by the lenes do. Any help? Also, is there a flash sync speed? Jimmy Rhyne
javier_henderson
Since the camera has a leaf shutter, flash will sync at all speeds.

There's the self-timer lever under the lens, it gives you about a 8-10 second delay before the shutter fires after pressing the shutter release button.

Then there's one knob on each side of the lens, one controls aperture, the other shutter speed.

I can't think of any other levers around the lens...

You can get a manual at http://www.craigcamera.com/ for about $20, John Craig offers excellent service.
jim_gauch
There's also a lever next to the lenses with "x" and "m" settings. (Or at least there is on the 124G.) The "m" setting is for use with certain kinds of flash bulbs. You'll want it on "x" for any electronic flash. You can see/print a copy of the manual for the 124G here.
john_kopecky1
An important thing to remember about this camera: always select the "X" setting (for electronic flash) before you use the self timer. I have a Yashicamat 124G and learned the hard way that if the self timer is used with the "M" setting, the shutter freezes up. Otherwise it is a great camera, the lens is excellent. todd frederick
On the M/X flash lever, set it to X and put a piece of electrical tape or any strong sticky tape over the slot to keep from accidently moving it back to M. It's easy to do.
