XD11 shutter speed issues... pls help

Discussion in 'Sony/Minolta' started by jasondo, Apr 20, 2018.

  1. Just picked up an a minolta xd11 from a flea market and threw some batteries in it. I know that the shutter speed is controlled electronically in these cameras, and no matter what speed i set it to, it sounds the same. The B and O settings work, but 1/1000 to 1 sec are the same.

    any ideas?

  2. Are you seeing the red LED indicators in the viewfinder?
  3. Is the mode switch (behind the speed dial) set to M for manual? In A or S modes the camera will set the shutter speed automatically.
  4. Check the battery compartment for corrosion and poor contact, and make sure the batteries are in the right way up!

Remember the body of AG4 cells is the positive terminal, unlike AA cells.

  5. Yup, the red leds show when i partially depress the shutter button
  6. Yeah i tried in every mode shutter sound doesnt change at all.
  7. battery compartment looks brand new, not seeing anything wrong. :(
  8. There does seem to be a fault on your camera unfortunately.
  9. Some cameras have an interlock that only lets the shutter fire at one speed until the frame counter hits '1'.

I know the Nikon F3 is like that, and can easily appear to be faulty for the first few clicks until the counter is at frame 1.
  10. No, the XD isn't like that. If you start to load a film with the camera in aperture priority mode, and with the lens cap on or in dim light, it can take forever for the shutter to operate as you wind it to frame 1.
  11. Sounds like you bought a dud. Never buy a camera like that at a flea market unless your familiar with it and check it out first. Too bad, that is a wonderful body.
  12. Often I had to buy camera like that at estate sales. The cameras generally have dead batteries so I can't test them before buying.
  13. I do think you have a problem camera but speed from 1/60 yo 1/1000 would sound the same. But 1s would certainly sound different.
  14. Oh Boy.....i am a month late.:(
The XD was about "The Best" camera Minolta made. Can you send it to a tech.?
Those cameras have one of the smoothest and most quiet Wind/Shutter mechanisms ever made.....plus a nice metering system.:)
  15. I had the same problem and sent it to Garry's camera repair and it works like it is brand new about $50.00 and a week. And guaranteed for months. I don't remember the phone number .
