mike_lyons
Hi to all.I have just tried running some tests with X-Tol diluted 1+2 (5liter kit, expiry 2006) which I have had no problems with in 35mm or 120 rf.However, the 4x5 HP-5 Plus and FP-4 Plus sheets that I put through had a consistent problem. The negative edges normally clear after fixing are very dense (read "bullet proof") and while the higher zones are reasonably dense (for developing time tests) the low zones have been reversed and look like a slide image (i.e a positive image) rather than a negative. I have not changed any part of my normal developing method that I have used with these films in this format with Aculux-2 and haven't had the problem before.Any suggestions? Regards- Mike
scott_eaton
Sure....make sure the lid on your 4x5 tank is light proof. Isn't solarization fun?
James G. Dainis
Yep, if the edges haven't been exposed to light, they can sit in developer for days with no reaction. They should remain clear. James G. Dainis
hans_beckert
Exposed to light during development.
mike_lyons
O.K, thanks for the feedback. I process in total darkness except for the darkroom clock?timer. I'll move that back out of line of sight from the film and see what happens."solarization"-THAT'S the term I was looking for! Funny that it hasn't happened before..... dan_sapper
Are you sure that your film wasn't fogged prior to processing? That you're not having problems with the other formats might suggest a light leak in your 4x5 film holder, camera, or handling method pre/post exposure. hans_beckert
Partial reversal as described here can occur only if exposed during processing.
