Howdy Everyone,

As you know, Photo.net publishes its own reviews of photographic equipment. These reviews are created by writers and editors who have many years of photographic experience. That having been said, sometimes the most useful reviews you can read when deciding on an equipment purchase are those from your fellow photographers. Seeing opinions from across all levels of photography experience and knowledge can be helpful in a way that nothing else can. To this end, Photo.net has created a place where users can write reviews of gear that they have owned or used.

What is being given away?

There are two prizes this month along with two $50 Amazon gift cards:

The first is a Tamron 18-270mm lens in Canon, Nikon, or Sony mount (retail value $649).

The acclaimed Tamron 18-270mm VC ultra zoom for APS-C format DSLRs has reached an astonishing new level of compactness, performance, and speed with the addition of PZD (Piezo Drive), an innovative ultrasonic autofocus motor based on an advanced piezoelectric design. The result is a lens that's considerably lighter, and noticeably shorter and slimmer (filter diameter: 62mm) than any previous lens in its class, and provides faster, quieter auto-focusing.

The second is a Cinevate Simplis Solo DSLR rig (retail value $399).

The Proteus Simplis DSLR Rig is the solution for anyone needing a lightweight, “run and gun” support rig. Incorporating a revolutionary system that allows a filmmaker the unique ability to customize and scale their rig as desired, Simplis is ideal for any filmmaker seeking a versatile, modular and upgradeable DSLR Support System.

Write us a review and we’ll enter you to win the Tamron lens or Cinevate Simplis Solo. Every review you write gets you another entry in the drawing. Contest ends on July 30th and we will announce the winners in the newsletter and on the forums afterwards.

Please note, the Tamron lens and the Cinevate Simplis Solo is only available to US residents. But the Amazon giftcards are available to everyone.
How do I write a review?
You can find full step-by-step instructions here:

http://www.photo.net/help/equipment/create-user-reviews/
You can also go to the Photo.net Partner Store and browser for the product you are looking to review and click the "Create Review" link.

What do I do if the product I want to review is not listed?
There are a number of paces where our product database is missing cameras or lenses. If you aren't able to find the product you want to review, post here in this thread and I will take care of it. Common and/or currently available products are easy to add, older or uncommon products can take a bit longer.

What do I do if I have a question?
Please post here or email me via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of any Photo.net page.

-Josh

Any interest in a review of a Cambo X-2 Pro (with comparison to alternatives). I've used one (and DSLRs "piggybacked"on LF) for photographic imaging of ancient buildings-most recently architectural interiors on the Acropolis in Athens.
Would this fit into a new equipment category?

David, please email me via the contact us link at the bottom of the page. It sounds like you are talking about more of a "standard" review.

Does this hold true for a collectable item, such as the only single shot 35 mm camera? I collect old cameras, and i have two. Daniel

The idea behind these reviews is that they would assist other photographers in their buying decision. So while older cameras are not completely "out", rare or collectable cameras are not really the goal.

nah....in that case let the US residents write the reviews.

I wish it could be otherwise for the physical prizes, but it cannot. Non-US residents can still win the Amazon gift certificates.

My interest is mostly is sports photography so I use the Nikon D3S with the 70-200/2.8 version II.. perfect for low light, then add a fill flash at about 1/60-1/128 works verywell.

You can place your review of the D3S here: photo.net/equipment/product-detail?product_id=8424
And the 70-200/2.8 here: http://www.photo.net/equipment/product-detail?product_id=8445

Thank you for your concern but the prize is meager and digital.Film may be dead but then again so is photography.

Photography is dead? Hmmm, I'm going to be out of a job here shortly then.
All joking aside, the prize is still a $650 lens (or the DSLR rig). You could always sell what you won and buy a nice pile of film with the proceeds.

We will announce winners Aug 1st.

I use an old Zoom atypical, it is a 38/76 mm has f1; 4.5/f1; 5.6. It dates from the first AF, it is noisy and wheezy.
Lately, I paired this one has a 0.42x Super Wide Zykkor F1; 1.6. This allowed me to get a wide angle zoom. You will certainly ask me what it can it serve ? ... Nothing, just fun !
That is to say that little give new life to the old material, and perhaps, be creative !
