suchismit1
An SB-80 running in wireless slave mode will turn on and offin sync with a master speedlight connected to a Nikon body. But if I want to use this speedlight in wireless/auto mode with a non Nikon system.. will that work ? Specifically I want it to sync with my Olympus T-32 on an OM4 body. I know it turns ON as I have tried that already, but what I can't tell is if it turns off when the Olympus does. Thanks for any comments.
TIm
david_h._hartman
The SB-80DX should mimic the flash duration of the masterspeedlight as long as the master has a flash duration ofapproximately 1/1,000 to 1/42,000. The master could be a Vivitar283 for all the SB-80DX cares. Ive used the Nikon SU-4 TTLslaves with SB-15 and SB-24 Speedlights in a wireless macro setupbut I have not used the SB-80DX so double check your SB-80DXmanual for specifics. YMMV.

If you dont own an SB-80DX or cant find your manualyou can down load a manual at Nikon website in the United Kingdom.Look for "Request a manual." or something similar. Themanual will be a high quality PDF file.

Wireless slave flash unit
A (auto) mode:
*The wireless slave flash unit starts and stops firing in syncwith the master
Speedlight.
*The maximum shooting distance of the SB-80DXs light sensoris approx.
7m (23 ft.). --SB-80DX Manual

In other words the slave brainlessly starts and stops when themaster unit starts and stops (even someone elses speedlight)as long as the slave is within range of the master.

To verify that the your setup is working correctly shoot somefilm or silicone. suchismit1
[ 1/1,000 to 1/42,000.] typical of most speedlights. That should be fine then. Thanks.
