mike_hegerfeld
Going on a family skiing vacation in Crested Butte, Colorado during the last week in February and would like to know of good locations for winter scenic shots. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
lester_laforce
When you arrive in CB, check out the local postcard racks...
As I recall, terrific view from top of ski lift. Advise to be sure you know how to meter on snow -- beware of gray snow. I have seen many great shots of skiers, maybe you can get some of those too. Suggest shoot skiers back-lit with something dark (shadows, trees) behind to make-um really jump out at you.
Town of CB is very photogenic, 19th century Victorian -- town lights on snow at dusk, twilight.
Good landscapes tend to be everywhere is Colorado, Challenge is to get a shot that doesnt look like a snap shot taken by a tourist.
Common sort of shot anywhere is the longshot landscape -- w/background (sky), mid-ground (mountain), fore-ground (many possibilities here ). Need good composition with interesting background + interesting mid-ground + interesting fore-ground+ interesting lighting. Second choice could be any two or three of the four. Snowscapes lit by full moon!
