Winogrand

Ths presentation reminds me that Garry Winograd's real strength as a photographer was his eye for the human condition: mortality, sex, boredom, vanity, appetites, sadness, and humor. He is one of the few photographers I know of where you get that sense where the photographer sees himself as being inside the human comedy instead of commenting on it from an ironic or intellectual distance.

I am pretty sure I have looked at every Winogrand book ever published and there are several pictures in this GREAT presentation that I haven't seen before. THANKS!

Unfortunately, with low-res images combined with little time to examine images, indivual shots lose a lot of their punch. Still, it's a fascinating way to look at an overview of his work, even more so his style.

If you are in the area, you can see a hundred or so of his prints (I think about 120(!), lots from his Women are Beautiful series) at Sycamore Hotel in Miami. Just visit, you don't have to stay there to see the collection. They have a great collection of Winogrand, Erwitt, etc.

It just goes to show once ahain that most of his subjects were interesting ordinary people and

not the "characters" that way too many street photographers use. I must say I enjoy the work

of Joe Gallo, John Sidlo, and Michael S just as much.
