window light for baby portrait

I have a commission to photograph a six month old in a well lit rectangular

room in the morning. On the one long side there is a small north facing window

and opposite are 2 small south facing windows. I understand it is best to use

the north facing window but this would mean a lot of furniture removal. Would

it be best to move the furniture or can I place baby somewhere else?

Never heard that it was best to use the north window. I know Rembrandt's window was on the north side, but I'd think that whether it's north or south would matter little-- as long as it's not east or west.

I think the north light concept is that you want to use the light from the open sky, not the glaring sun. As long as you have soft light coming from the window rather than the direct rays of the sun you are OK.

Place a shear or other diffuser over the south window. You could tape tracing paper to the panes if you're getting direct sun. Also, within the room use reflectors to manage the light.

Thanks all think i should go with diffusing the light from south facing window. Fingers crossed.

It will be fine with any window. Just study the light and position the kid accordingly.
