Wide angle lens for Olympus OM

Hello,

I am looking for a wide angle lens for my Olympus OM. I don't want to

spend the price of a Zuiko 24 and/or 21mm . So, what about third-party

lenses (Vivitar, Tamron, etc) in term of optical quality and

reliability???

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I have a Zuiko 24mm. It's very good but not wide enough for interior shots. I couldn't justify putting out the money to get an 18mm, so I tried out a Phoenix 19-35 f3.5. It's pretty good. I use it at 19mm f8-f11 and it's plenty sharp and contrasty for room shots. Some day I'll probably get a used Tokina 17mm f3.5 to try it out too.

If you can get a good used Sigma 24mm lens with an OM mount, you won't go

far wrong. I bought one years ago brand new, after looking at the ridiculous

prices that camera shops were asking for very used/tatty Olympus 24mm

lenses. The Sigma is reputedly just as good as the Olympus, optically

speaking and I've never had any complaints about the results that I have had

from it.

Other options might include Tamron; not sure if they have a 24mm lens in

adaptall mount, but their lenses are usually very high quality. The Tamron

90mm macro is hard to beat, giving extremely sharp images.

Nicolas - If it must be 24mm or wider, and you can't afford a used Zuiko, then try and find a Tamron or Vivitar f2.8. Otherwise if 28mm will do, you can find a used Zuiko f2.8 or f3.5 for very little, $60 - $80 or less, and you won't be sorry. The OM is such a wonderful camera, it's a pity to compromise it.

Hello all,

I previously owned a Zuiko 24 mm but I sold it (you never do dummy things???).

I still have a Zuiko 28 but I would like a wider angle for indoor shots and as someone said, Zuiko prices are very high (speculation?).

I feel a 17 mm to be too specific. I'd rather go for a 20-24 mm.

Thanks for your posts.
