hi guys. im planning to purchase a Gitzo G-1564L Mk2 Studex XL

Monopod.

currently i have a manfrotto tripod with a 488RC4 midi ball

head. hence, i have a 3271 quick release plate on my camera and one

of my tele lens. so, for the sake of convenient, i want to use this

plate on the coming monopod.

with that set in ind, i plan to get a 394 low profile quick release

adapter, and put it on any ballhead that accepts it. after a few

searches, i came up with 3 choices: a gitzo G-1077M Magnesium Center

Ballhead, a Bogen 484 Mini Ball Head, and a Bogen 486 Compact Ball

Head.

which one of these heads would you recommend? or is there

any other choices you would suggest? i appreciate very much.

D. None of the Above.

Check out the Really Right Stuff web site (www.reallyrightstuff.com) for their recommendations on topping off a monopod. Their solution is plenty versatile, and a lot less expensive (lighter as well).

hello Steve. thanks for your recommendation. however RRS's solution is to put a B2-Pro clamp on a bogen's swivel head (3232). at first, i was confused as of how this clamp would "clamps" my camera and/or lens. then i found out it will clamp on RRS's L-Plates, which are "camera specific".

i dont mind changing to this system, but at the mean time it'll cost me a lot to do that. i'll just stick to the heads that can accept the 3271 plate. is there any other suggestions?

How about placing the 394 adapter on the Bogen 3232 head? It is up-down only. You need only up and down motion from the head because the monopod will do the left-right motion. Very inexpensive and can be upgraded later for the quick release system, if needed. The details on the 3232 are at the Really Right Stuff site that Steve gave you.
