michael grace
I am looking for recommendations (model) for a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod and which ballhead for an Ebony RW45. I do mostly landscapes which require walking 5-15 miles (day trip). Largest lens is 300mm. I pack my gear in a LowePro PhotoTrekker. I want stability and be able to shoot low to the ground. Are spiked feet important? I some times shoot from rock. Thanks for any responses. Cheers.
eric_floyd
Gitzo 1325....
nicholas_fiduccia
Michael, I second the above 1325 recommendation. You mightwant to consider the even lighter 1227 and an Arcatechtripod which should be about 4.5lbs. Nick
ole_tjugen
Why Gitzo? If I were you, I wouldn't put an Ebony on anything but wood! http://www.stabil.nu They go down to the height of your ballhead, and are ultra stable...
mark_windom
Gitzo 1325 with an A-S B1. Unless you are quite tall in which case I would go with another 13 series that extends a little higher.

ed_candland1
I'm in the G1325 camp also. I perfer to be able to ajust each axis one at a time so I use the G1370M head instead of a ballhead. I've been happy with the G1370M. It weighs about 2lbs so It's not all the heavy. Good luck, Ed
gudmundur_ing_lfsson1
I did some tests in the Gitzo shop and now I have a 1375M head on a 1227. This combination is great for the RW45 and it does not get much lighter.
ed_candland1
Gudmunder, So you like those off-set ball heads? I have never used one but I heard how others didn't really care for them. They just seem odd. Do you like them better than the centered type and if so what is the advantage?
michael grace
Thanks for all the responses. I went with the Gitzo 1325 and Gitzo 1370M Pan Tilt head - I liked the low profile. Bought from Jeff at Badger Graphics - he is the best. This will replace my Husky Quick Set.
