john_wilson10
As a long time lurker on photo.net, it feels weird asking this question in the Leica forum, but I guess the XA is a rangefinder, so... I picked one up at Goodwill for 15 bucks, ran a roll of film in it and it acted kinda funny. (Sadly, I don't remember what kind of "funny" it was, this was a few months ago and I only remember thinking "Hmm... that's weird.") I'd like to have someone take a look at it, preferably in the Twin Cities area so I don't have to ship it. Also, what am I looking at cost wise for this? Thanks! wendell_kelly
Camtech is a reliable Olympus shop: www.zuiko.com
norman_mayersohn
Somewhat OT: Can anyone recommend a repair shop to CLA a Canonet QL19? I know that it would probably cost more that it's worth (typical stuck leaf shutter, and I'd like to get the meter recalibrated for a modern battery at the same time) but it's probably the camera I used at the 1964 World's Fair. Those slides still look great. Thanks.
MTC Photography
It probably looking at $100 to $150 repair bill
wendell_kelly
Unless there is a specialist shop for the Canonet, your best bet will probably be Essex Camera Service in New Jersey - they seem to be able to repair virtually any camera. Martin's cost estimate will probably be close to the mark.
norman_mayersohn
Thanks for the Essex reminder -- a good suggestion. It sounds like the cost may make it wiser to just display the Canonet on a shelf.
lenk
Norman, you might wish to check with Steven Gandy at Cameraquest. In the past, he has taken on repairs of Canonets and has done an exemplary job, especially on my old QL19.
