What's a "Purge Unit"?

Discussion in 'Digital Darkroom' started by william_h._wiley, Jul 6, 2006.

  1. Has anyone ever heard of a broken "purge unit" on a Canon i9900 printer? That
was a telephone diagnosis from Canon about my printer that will no longer print
3 colors. They said that it could be tubes from the purge unit that aren't
connected anymore or maybe the unit will have to be replaced. If I can, I'd
like to avoid sending the whole printer in for repairs if it's something I can
    look at myself.

Everything else has been tried, including cleaning, deep cleaning, buying new
Canon cartridges, buying a new printer head, reseating it, etc. Still no ink
from the colors on the right side.

Any info about purge units would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Hi Bill, I Googled "Canon Purge Unit" - here's from the first of many hits: "The purge unit is the mechanism that cleans and refreshes your print cartridge." From: http://www.depot-america.com/article_cannoninkjet.asp Good luck!

  3. Hey there, off subject but the guys who spend days in the hospital records department purging old files are often reffered to as purge units....

    Cheers.
