hkbmac
Hi there, How do I need to label my photo uploads in order for them to appear in the gallery search results? For instance, the following photo ( http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo? topic_id=1481&msg_id=003egV&photo_id=963029&photo_sel_index=0 ) is captioned "Pigeon Point Lighthouse". When I type "lighthouse" into the search gallery box, I get about 20 other photos, but mine is not included. Is there a way I can dictate which keywords bring up my photos? duolian
Wave girl has asked a similar question today.
I think the problem is, that the index which the gallery search feature relies on has not been updated in a long, long time. In another thread about this from this past June, Brian Mottershead explained that "the indexing of photos was disabled after around 100000 photos had been indexed". At that time, Brian was thinking about ways of resuming the indexing without having the system be swamped. I haven't seen anything about that since, however. I suspect that it hasn't been gotten to yet. Effectively, then, the gallery search feature is of limited usefulness: it will only find old stuff... hkbmac
I find it interesting that the photo.net staff has been silent on this issue. These questions address something that I consider to be basic functionality and usability of the site.
mottershead
Brian, well I guess we don't consider it basic functionality, or else we would have fixed it. But we do intend to make it work at some point. At the top of our list of things to do are items that will prompt people to subscribe. Do you think people will subscribe if we implment this? hkbmac
Hi Brian, While I don't think fixing this one issue would prompt people to run out and subscribe, I do believe that things like this are more likely to prompt people NOT to subscribe. There are articles in the archived forum dating back several years documenting the problems with the search engine on this site. I guess we have a difference in opinion as to what basic functionality is...
