daniel_harris
I guess I'll get things started this week.
Volleyball is a tough sport for me to photograph. I feel like I’m getting better, but it is harder to anticipatewhere the ball will go (for me anyways) compared to most sports. Add to that dark gyms and no flash. Here’s whatI was able to capture.
<a href="http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh102/gaelson/photnet/?action=view¤t=IMG_0742.jpg"target="_blank"><img src="http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh102/gaelson/photnet/IMG_0742.jpg" border="0"alt="Photobucket">
Bump.
<a href="http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh102/gaelson/photnet/?action=view¤t=IMG_0762.jpg"target="_blank"><img src="http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh102/gaelson/photnet/IMG_0762.jpg" border="0"alt="Photobucket">
Free.
<a href="http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh102/gaelson/photnet/?action=view¤t=IMG_0795.jpg"target="_blank"><img src="http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh102/gaelson/photnet/IMG_0795.jpg" border="0"alt="Photobucket">
Kill.
<a href="http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh102/gaelson/photnet/?action=view¤t=IMG_0814.jpg"target="_blank"><img src="http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh102/gaelson/photnet/IMG_0814.jpg" border="0"alt="Photobucket">
Block

wilsontsoi
Daniel, for volleyball, try shooting from different locations. For action behind net, shoot from opposite endline and zone focus area right behind the net. There are examples from this previous thread.

brian_bahn
The little guys again. Baseball and soccer. I am now armed with a big upgrade in my lens, a 50-200mm 2.8-3.5 Oly so I would like to go start shooting high school events and see how I make out. My goal is to eventually be able to seel some shots. we'll see. Will, What lens are you using for your swimming? Our friend's daughter swims competitively on a national level and I would eventually like to take my camera along witht he 2.8-3.5 but am not sure even that is fast enough. I've been to enough of her meets to know the lighting can be questionable even at large venues.

will king
Brian, I was using a 1D Mark III and a 50D with the following lenses, all shot wide open. 135mmL f/2, 85mm f/1.8, 70- 200mm L f/2.8 IS, and 400mm L f/2.8 IS. The shutter speed ranged from 1/320 - 1/640. ISO ranged from ISO1250 to ISO3200.

brian_bahn
Will, Thank You. I don't have that arsenal of lenses and my Olympus E510 has 1600 ISO max which gets noisy. But I am still going to give it a shot sometime.

clarence1
A baker's dozen from last night's Redskins vs Cleveland Browns game. Hopefully this isn't too many... I compressed the heck out of the JPGs to keep the file size minimal.
My Sigma 50-500mm did great at the daytime games I went to this year, but last night the Bigma definitely had a harder time with the stadium lights, so I had to use ISO 3200.
Unfortunately, our seats were again at the VERY top row of the stadium (and FedEx Field is the NFL's largest stadium, beating NY Giants by 11,000 seats). Ask any photographer which seat would be the worst sport in the stadium and they'd all probably point to where my son & I were sitting:

But zoom to 500mm and you can almost tell heads or tails...

This one was from the first quarter... there was still one spot of sunset remaining, so for a limited time my SS was still faster than 1/1000. But it kept falling rapidly... 1/500 by halftime, 1/250 at end of game.

Chris Cooley (TE, #47) :

Another thing I love about the Bigma... even after taking a shot at 500mm, I can spin around and take a 50mm shot of my son's friend sitting 3 feet away...

Jason Campbell (War Eagle!)...

Clear a path for Clinton Portis en route to 175 yards!
great D from Carlos Rogers (War Eagle!)

Touchdown!

I like Fred Smoot, but he aimed a little too low on this tackle and the runner stepped right over him...

Touchdown Santana Moss!
Coach Zorn was already in a bad mood after losing a fumble in the last 2 minutes of the game, losing a challenge, giving Cleveland the ball in FG range which could tie it up, then these 2 kids run onto the field... Coach Z was ready to assist in the sack...

Cleveland kicked with 0:25 left... and MISSED!

Redskins win 11-14! dalayo
I've never tried with volleyball, but this weekend i had some experience with "motor sports", a kind of x-treme one, and it's really hard
