Photographs! I'm spending the holidays (and beyond) on the road in the SW U.S. taking pictures every day; spent Christmas Day at Bosque del Apache wildlife refuge in New Mexico. Did get a Canon 5DIII for my son and a Canon 85mm f/1.8 for his girlfriend.

I got some time with my son. We cooked together Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. This is Christmas Day, quail with andouille cornbread stuffing and brussel sprouts with bacon. A lot more important to spend the time together than to get any presents, which we didn't do.

I am sorry I wasn't trying to be a show pony. I was just curious if other people got equipment or photo related gifts. I too

took timeoff to be with my family. The items I got we'ren't expensive ( not 1 was over $100). I was just trying to start a

conversation and now I wish I hadn't posted it.

Dennis, it's a perfectly reasonable subject - seems like some of the "contributors" to the thread have forgotten that this is a gear forum...

I got a nice, light Toshiba Win 7/64 bit laptop - 6 gb of RAM (which will be 8 gb by the weekend) and 1 tb HDD will make photographic trips away much more manageable than they were with my clunky old, heavy, inch-thick, 2 gb RAM/Vista 32 bit/160 gb HDD lappy.

Well, this was not exactly a suprise: found just before Christmas in a very interesting and reasonably priced second hand store, complete with case, all in very nice shape. The B+W UV filter is added. I've also put the strap from another Pentax on it, looks good.

Replaced the battery, and seems to meter fairly reliably (comparing with a Canon 5D), if I set the ISO about double.

Anyway, it got wrapped and went under the tree.

I'm struggling a little with what film to put in it. Leaning towards Tri-X and home processing, but open to suggestions ;)

Ah, gee... I'm sorry! I didn't mean it that way! I guess I should explain that Christmas had been a time for me that I've lost family (on various occasions and for various reasons), so it was a very sad holiday season for me. But one Christmas, now long past, a wonderful family took me in as one of their own. It was the best gift I have ever received, and I reflect on it each and every joyous Christmas season. I am a very lucky person, and no material gift could hold a candle to what I've received. Every Christmas, I don't have to unwrap any presents. I wake up with a smile on my face, knowing I already got what I most wanted. :-)

Hi Sarah,

it's OK, i understand. I am very sorry to hear that. I definitely understand that family is more important, I have a wife of 20+ years

and 3 kids age 7, 10 and 14. I took a bunch of left over PTO time to be with them this Christmas season. A friend of

mine that I graduated high school with just lost her husband on Cristmas just before noon. He had just 2 weeks earlier

had his 48th birthday.

No photo related presents here. In fact, I am yet one more person who has pretty much gone off the whole X-mas present hullabaloo. That said, I am not totally beyond a certain photo gear obsession, and a vintage Soligor 24-45mm lens sounds like something I might have picked up myself - especially in the <$100 price range. Any further info on it, or photos taken of or with the lens?

No photo related stuff for Christmas from here either.
I did get to spend a wonderful Christmas with my 16 y.o. Son, Eldest Daughter, her husband and two children and both my Parents. (In their mid 80's)
So it was indeed a wonderful Christmas!

I will however get to do something photo related on New Years day! A day off to spend out shooting. That's my Christmas present to myself!

re Christmas presents, post on Farcebook, so I won't read it there, either...

I didn't get the memo explaining that you'd appointed yourself chief of the forum content police, WT.

Here's a better idea: you don't like a subject, don't feel obliged to look at it, much less post.

My God! At Christmas, on a gear forum, I can't imagine a more on-topic subject for a thread than one asking what gear people got for Christmas.
