WAngell
We're heading to the Big Island for a week later this month. Among other things would like to get some whales. We'll have a 400 f/2.8 and 200-500 along (as well as 70-200, etc.) - From land, any good spots to shoot from? Best time of day? - By boat, any good recommendations? I'm not a big fan of cattle boats which most of the zodiac and catamaran seem to be. Any that you'd recommend? Are the large zodiac's too tippy to shoot from? Too much spray? Is it worth it to do a charter like Best Private Boat Charters - Custom Trips from Wahine Charters Kona, Hi ?? Thanks,
photo_galleries
In February? On land, North Kohala, Kohala Coast would be best. Check out Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site, Lapakahi State Historical Park Best time of the day would be early morning -- no later than 8am On water... closer is better so yes, being on a boat is better than being on shore. If cost is not an issue, then yes, a private charter is always better than the tours. Not only would you not have to elbow your way to get the best vantage point, you can also customize the trip, e.g., a combined fishing, snorkeling and whale watching trip. Have fun!
