petre_andonov
I have Epson V700 flatbed scanner. I need to wet-scan about: A. 60 rolls 35mm film (36exp) cut in stips 4 or 6 frames long.B. 36 individual slides mounted.C. 2-3 rolls of slides cut in stips 6 frames long.D: 14 rolls APS negative film (25exp) still inside of cartriges. I want to scan them wet-mounted because it is supposed to reduce grain, helpwith dust, make the film much flatter. A. I guess should be no problemB. I am willing to unmount them; wet-scan; and then mount againC. I guess slides cut into strips make no difference from negativesD: THIS IS THE TRICKY PART. I am willing to pull out the film and cut it intostrips just to be able to wet-scan. Could you recommend me a wet-scan system that is compatible with my scanner andable to hold all the films described above including the individual slides andthe APS film? If the system does not include consumables (the liquids etc.)could you recommend such. My budget is $150-$200 but could go higher if it is worth it. I have no prior experience with wet-scanning. I greatly appreciate your help and look forward to your replies.THANK YOU!
steve_bingham
Never heard of such a thing. Drum scanners use oil but that's another thing altogether - and into the thousands of dollars.

petre_andonov
I found this: www.fluidmounting.com they seem to provide a kit with what you need but the film holders are specific for film size and there is no holder for APS film size. What do you think?
steve_bingham
I learned something today - almost. I wonder what the labor involved might be? It looks like it takes considerable technique and effort. As I no longer scan slides I had not heard of this. Interesting technique, but I need to know more. fast_primes
There's a big Yahoo group that gets into this: WETMOUNTING-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
AaronFalkenberg
B and C are relatively easy to accomplish. Look at: www.scanscience.com

A will be very, very time consuming and you will need a heluva lot of fluid for 360 strips! I would take them to a pro lab. Their scanners are generally designed for high-volume work, and the ones I've had experience with all hold the film quite flat.

For D, I would emphasize this even more. Consumer flatbeds, wet-mounting or not, just don't have the optical tolerances that will result in a quality scan from an APS frame. Also, there is no holder, I know of, that will hold unrolled APS: read very, very curly! Only attatchments for dedicated film scanners like a Nikon or Minolta can extract and rewind it.
