Sandy Vongries
One of two new visitors last night -- appears to be a Western Kingbird. Input? The other was gone too quickly.
Dieter Schaefer
More likely an Eastern KIngbird; Western ones have yellow bellies and pale grey heads and backs. Western Kingbird Edited August 9, 2017 by Dieter Schaefer
Sandy Vongries
Thanks, Dieter, apparently we have both varieties. The same one was back, and has an amazing trick -- he skips himself off the koi pond like a thrown stone instead of bathing like the other birds. Can't imagine I could capture that! But here is another shot -- he's on the shy side.
Rod Sorensen
Agree it could be an eastern kingbird if it has a little hook on the upper bill. Head doesn't look quite as prominent as I would expect. Also should be a fairly large bird, 8-9 inches.
